Trabajo Magazine featuring Che Guevara - "El Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores Petroquímicos" (November 1962)
A historic issue of Trabajo, the official magazine of Cuba's Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC - Cuban Workers' Central), featuring an iconic portrait of Che Guevara on the cover. Artistic director Rodolfo Peña Mora created this memorable painted image of "El Che" wearing his signature beret with star insignia.
This issue focuses on the National Union of Petrochemical Workers, with an interior photo essay titled "Las fotos de nuestra carátula" showcasing Che alongside images of the Nico López petroleum refinery and industrial workers. Published in November 1962—at the height of revolutionary fervor and just after the Cuban Missile Crisis—this magazine documents the transformation of Cuba's oil industry under the revolution.
The warm orange spine and earth-toned cover create a working-class aesthetic appropriate for a labor union publication. Priced at just 15 centavos, it was accessible to the workers it represented.
