The cover features an enchanting painting by Rolando Córdoba dated 1977, depicting a whimsical blue cat with expressive eyes reclining amid a vibrant garden of stylized flowers in yellow, orange, red, and blue. A spiral sun shines overhead while purple butterflies and pink clouds float through the scene. The naive, folkloric style perfectly captures the playful spirit of children's music while demonstrating sophisticated color relationships and compositional balance. The back cover continues this aesthetic with simple line drawings of a child, donkey, sun, and palm tree on a warm yellow background, creating a cohesive visual narrative.
Named after José Martí's beloved 1889 children's magazine "La Edad de Oro," this group was founded in 1971 by the children of campesino artists Prima Muñoz and Rubén Aguiar Dávila. The ensemble—including Rubén, Ángel Luis, and Dany—performed traditional Cuban music and children's songs at festivals and cultural events throughout Cuba and internationally. Produced by ethnomusicologist María Teresa Linares, the album features songs by composers including Ignacio Piñeiro, Carlos Puebla, and Eduardo Saborit. By 1979, the group had performed over 500 concerts, preserving Cuban musical traditions while introducing them to younger generations.
