"Mi gatico Vinagrito" (My Little Cat Vinegar) is a children's music album by Teresita Fernández and Grupo Canakuna, released by EGREM in 1987. The album features orchestration by Carlos Cancio Fors and Lucía Huergo, with direction by Carlos Cancio Fors. Production was by Sara González and Lucía Huergo, with photography by Margaret Randall and Enrique de la Uz, and cover design by Diana Balboa.
The album includes fourteen children's songs composed and performed by Teresita Fernández, including the title track "Mi gatico Vinagrito," along with "Dame la mano y danzaremos" (Give me your hand and let's dance), "Amiguitos vamos todos a cantar" (Little friends let's all sing), "Rani," "El ratoncito del farol" (The little mouse of the lantern), "Amiguita Dorotea" (Little friend Dorotea), "Libélula" (Dragonfly), "Vicaria," "La gordita azul" (The chubby blue one), "Voy a contarte mi niño (El zunzuncito)" (I'm going to tell you my child - The hummingbird), "Pitusa y Eusebio," "Tin tin la lluvia" (Pitter-patter the rain), "Chicharrita" (Little cicada), and "Señora Manatí" (Mrs. Manatee).
The cover design is a beautiful example of Cuban children's album aesthetics—a documentary photograph by Margaret Randall showing a young Black child standing in a weathered wooden doorway, eating or holding something to their mouth. The image captures everyday Cuban childhood with documentary honesty and warmth. Surrounding the photograph are charming childlike drawings in black ink: a simple cat figure on the left (representing the titular "gatico"), and on the right, small sketches including a sun with rays, a snail, an angel or winged figure, a round moon or ball, and a stick figure person. The title "Mi gatico Vinagrito" appears in pink handwritten script at the top, with "Teresita Fernández" at the bottom, creating an intimate, handmade aesthetic that appeals to children while maintaining sophisticated documentary photography. The back cover includes handwritten lyrics and a photograph of Teresita Fernández with a dog, emphasizing the album's personal, intimate character and connection to children's experiences in revolutionary Cuba.
