The cover features a vibrant photograph of José Fuster himself standing among his signature mosaic sculptures in brilliant pink, blue, and multicolored ceramic tiles that have transformed the Jaimanitas neighborhood of Havana. This bilingual guidebook documents twelve key sites within Fuster's remarkable community art project, which began in 1994 when the artist established his Studio-Workshop in Jaimanitas.
Since then, Fuster has transformed hundreds of meters of walls, facades, and roofs throughout the neighborhood, creating what has become known as "Fusterlandia" - a living gallery where art and daily life merge. Born in Caibariรฉn, Villa Clara in 1946, Fuster graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Instructores de Arte y Artistas and joined the Cubanacán Ceramics Workshop in 1965, helping to renew the sculptural ceramics movement in Cuba. The project represents more than just public art - it's a collaborative community transformation involving local residents in the creation and maintenance of these artistic spaces.
The guide, photographed and curated by Roberto Chile and Alex Fuster with texts by David González, introduces visitors to the twelve most significant Fusterian sites, explaining both the artistic vision and the cultural impact of this unprecedented neighborhood beautification project. Fuster's work has earned him national recognition including the Distinción por la Cultura Nacional (1996), the "Gitana Tropical" award from Havana Province (2005), and the Premio por la Obra de la Vida from the Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales (2008).
