This historic special supplement published by OSPAAAL in April 1967 contains one of the most influential revolutionary documents of the 20th century: Che Guevara's "Message to the Tricontinental." Written from his guerrilla base in Bolivia shortly before his death, this message was Che's final major statement calling for armed struggle against imperialism across the developing world.
The cover features a dramatic photomontage design combining a circular portrait of Che's contemplative face superimposed over a bold red silhouette of a revolutionary figure in action. The deep burgundy and crimson color palette, layered with textured photographic elements, creates a sense of urgency and sacrifice. The composition transforms Che from individual leader into universal symbol of revolutionary commitment, his face literally emerging from the body of armed resistance.
Che's message contained his famous rallying cry "Create two, three... many Viet-Nams—that is the watchword," urging the creation of multiple revolutionary fronts to stretch U.S. imperial forces thin. The text, introduced with a José Martí quote "Now is the time of the furnaces, and only light should be seen," critiqued the peaceful coexistence policies between socialist and capitalist blocs, arguing instead for direct support of armed liberation movements worldwide.
OSPAAAL's Executive Secretariat decided to publish this message immediately upon receiving it from Che, recognizing its vital importance for revolutionary movements in Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, and Bolivia. The supplement was distributed internationally through Tricontinental's trilingual network, making it one of the most widely circulated revolutionary texts of the Vietnam War era. Che was killed by Bolivian forces just six months after this publication, transforming this message into his revolutionary testament.
