Wayacón (Julián Espinosa) was born in Remedios, Cuba in 1931 and is a true “outsider” artist.
As a self-taught outsider painter, he remains uninfluenced by other artists or the predilections of critics.
He paints using all kinds of materials: wood, canvas, denim, scraps of cardboard, wax, buttons, pieces of wood, shoes, forks and spoons are interwoven into the texture of his paintings.
In his career he has done wood carvings and sculpture, as well as paint on any available material.
He has shown often in the United States and is part of the permanent collection at the Center for Cuban Studies.
