Raúl Sendic (1926-1989) was the founder and leader of the Tupamaros (MLN-T), Uruguay's leftist urban guerrilla movement. He was imprisoned during Uruguay's military dictatorship (1973-1985), during which time he and other political prisoners endured severe conditions. This OSPAAAL solidarity poster calls for his freedom, showing a portrait behind barbed wire with a sunrise/sunburst symbolizing hope for liberation. The campaign for Sendic's release was part of broader international solidarity with Latin American political prisoners during the dictatorships of the 1970s.
OSPAAAL (Víctor Manuel Navarrete), "Uruguay: Libertad para / Freedom for / Liberté pour / Raúl Sendic," 1977. Offset poster, 29" × 19".
